HBK Braunschweig offers 7 artistic fellowships for 2027/28 on behalf of the State of Lower Saxony: 2 sound art scholarships and 5 visual arts scholarships. The programme is aimed at artists who would like to work on a project in the immediate vicinity of HBK Braunschweig. With their project proposal, fellows should make a significant contribution towards the further development of forms of artistic practice.

  • Art degree required, completed between 1 April 2016 and 1 April 2023
  • Proof of extensive artistic practice and exhibition participation required
  • Cannot receive regular payment from third parties during funding period (residence, salary, work scholarships, or state subsidy)
  • International applicants welcome
  • Stipend: €1,600 per month for 12 months
  • Rent-free studio apartment (single occupancy) for the duration of the fellowship
  • Monthly contribution: €250 towards incidental living costs (paid by fellow)
  • Allowance for project and travel costs
  • Funding period: 1 April 2027 – 31 March 2028
  • Move-in date: 15 April 2027

Fellows are assigned a mentor from the fine arts professors and have access to the entire department for artistic discourse. Participation is required in Welcome Weeks (19–30 April 2027) and a joint final presentation (January/February 2028). Fellows must reside at HBK for at least 8 months during lecture periods and submit a short final report (approximately 1 page) at the end.

  • Diploma for most recent art degree or certified German translation (PDF, max. 1MB)
  • Application deadline: 4 October 2026 (11:59 pm)
  • Welcome Weeks: 19–30 April 2027
  • Funding period start: 1 April 2027
  • Final presentation: January/February 2028
