Overview

The Portia Geach Memorial Award, established in memory of Portia Geach, recognizes outstanding portrait painting. The non-acquisitive award of $30,000 is presented for the entry of highest artistic merit depicting a portrait painted from life of a person distinguished in art, letters, or the sciences.

Eligibility

Open to female artists who are Australian citizens or British-born Australian residents, and have resided in Australia during the 12 months preceding the close date. Permanent residents are ineligible.

What to submit

  • High-resolution image of completed work (max 2MB, .jpeg or .tiff format)
  • 200-word artist statement about the work (Microsoft Word or PDF format)
  • Signed statement by the sitter

Awards

  • $30,000 non-acquisitive award for the highest artistic merit
  • $1,000 People's Choice Award (given in memory of Harry & Winifred Macorison) for finalists

Applications are accepted online only. All applications are judged via online visual submissions. Note: incomplete applications cannot be saved and retrieved at a later date; you will be prompted to start a new form if you leave it incomplete.
