Southern University and A&M College is constructing a new $68 million STEM Complex on its Baton Rouge campus to support the university's growing programs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Construction began in March 2025, and the facility is expected to be completed in spring 2027. The complex will serve as a central academic hub for students and faculty pursuing STEM disciplines at Southern University.
The artwork may also consider the broader narrative of STEM education across time, reflecting the past, present, and future of scientific exploration and technological advancement. Proposed locations include: a suspended artwork within the main atrium and a wall-mounted installation within the atrium. Artists should consider how these works may function both individually and collectively, creating a visual and conceptual dialogue between interior and exterior spaces. Architectural drawings, renderings, and digital models will be made available to finalists to assist with proposal development.
