Overview

Assembly Hall is a community-based arts venue dedicated to nurturing and celebrating community, creativity and culture with arts-focused classes, performances and events. The beautifully restored building blends history with innovative modern design.

• Sunday and statutory holidays: Closed
• General Admission: Free

By the Lake Book Club

By the Lake Book Club offers an inspiring season of in-person and virtual literary events. Join Humber Polytechnic alumni as they dive into conversation with leading Canadian authors. This series features six Tuesday-night events between February and December. Each in-person event includes a reading, discussion, audience Q&A, book-signing and American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation. Virtual events are presented with live subtitles.

• Threads of Connection and Conversation: September 3 to October 1 (Reception: September 3, 6 p.m.) — Visual storytelling capturing fleeting moments and urban life by Isabel Fryszberg, Janna Robins Walters and Poonam Khanna.
• Cowboys and Wallflowers: October 8 to November 7 (Reception: October 8, 6 p.m.) — Danielle Cole's handcrafted collages from vintage materials challenging gender norms.
• 'Tis the Season: November 18 to December 16 (Open House: November 25, 6:30 p.m.) — Works by students from local schools speaking to seasonal changes.

Artists-in-Residence 2025–2026

• KINAJ: Kin Nguien and AJ Velasco, a cross-genre dance company blending street styles with contemporary dance, improvisation, freestyle and partnering techniques.
• Atri Nundy: Mid-career dance artist, educator and choreographer trained in Bharatanatyam with extensive performance experience across Canada and internationally.

Artists-in-Residence 2026–2027

• Pulga Muchochoma: Independent artist and founder of Pulga Dance, trained at The School of Toronto Dance Theatre and former company member of Toronto Dance Theatre.
• Kass Prus: Queer, non-binary, autistic and physically disabled creator using contemporary performance to queer and crip Slavic folk art practices.
