The Mondriaan Fund offers a 4-month residency at MMCA Residency Changdong in Seoul, South Korea, in collaboration with the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. The residency features nine studios, two exhibition spaces, and a large outdoor working space. Residents participate in an international programme alongside Korean artists, with typically six international artists and researchers. Open Studios are organized twice yearly, and residents display work in the exhibition spaces. The MMCA organizes field trips and studio visits by curators.

  • Residency period: 1 March 2027 – 30 June 2027
  • Application deadline: Thursday 26 February 2026, before 16.00 (Dutch time zone) / 11.00 (Caribbean time zone)
  • For visual artists only
  • Must speak fluent English
  • Must not have previously stayed at MMCA
  • Cannot apply as a duo

The Mondriaan Fund provides €11,189 to cover travel expenses, material costs and living costs. The selected resident is expected to pay a 10% personal contribution, which the Mondriaan Fund automatically accounts for in the ultimate subsidy. The contribution to artists based in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom can be increased to meet higher travel costs.

The selection is made by an advisory committee. Based on submitted documents, the advisory committee proposes candidates to the MMCA, who make the final decision on residency participants. An interview may be part of their selection process. Processing time for the selection procedure may exceed three months.

The application must be submitted in English. Before submitting, see the Residency page for terms and conditions, application procedure, and assessment procedure. When applying for two different residencies within the same call, the quality and development assessment is only done once and is valid for both applications.
