About
Overview
City Rising is seeking an A/V artist, video artist, sound artist, multimedia artist, or interdisciplinary artist to create a series of short audiovisual works for Beyond These Gates: Remembering Home, the Prison, and a Place Yet to Be, a live public event exploring memory, incarceration, place, redevelopment, and possibility through the former site of the Indiana Women's Prison in Indianapolis. The selected artist will work with edited interviews, poetry, and first-person cellphone video recorded inside the former prison by a woman who was formerly incarcerated there.
Artist Approach
Using music, soundscape, moving image, abstraction, and other artistic approaches, the artist will help deepen the emotional gravity of these stories and expand how audiences encounter and understand them. The organizers value emotional and interpretive effectiveness over technical complexity. Abstraction, minimalism, repetition, restrained movement, layering, typography, image manipulation, and other economical approaches are welcome—particularly approaches that make ambitious artistic work possible within an accelerated production schedule.
