The Material Works Art Award supports artists through a one-time $2,500 award in exchange for an original artwork that will join the organizer's contemporary art collection. This award recognizes artistic excellence and aims to promote career advancement through increasing visibility and exposure.
Eligibility
- Visual artists working worldwide in painting, photography, installation, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, mixed-media, experimental, and conceptual art
- Must be over 18 years old
- Contemporary art practice required

Submission Requirements
- One submission per applicant
- Upload 1-15 images of your original artwork (~2 MB JPEGs each)
- Upload an image list for each work (title, medium, date, size, additional details)
- Upload 1 optional image of artwork for collection in exchange for award
- Upload optional Artist Statement (500 words), Bio (500 words), CV/Resume
- Upload optional studio/workspace image or artist portrait
Award Breakdown
The selected artist receives $2,500 in exchange for an original artwork of similar monetary value. The artwork joins the collection and is considered for future exhibition. The organizer covers shipping costs. The selected artist receives an archived online profile interview, social media features, and is welcome to join as a jury member for future opportunities.
Shortlist Benefits
Shortlisted artists will be interviewed about their work and practice with an archived online profile, featured on social media platforms, and invited to join and represent Material Works in future opportunities.
Application Fee
- $40.00 application review fee per submission
- One free application day to be announced on Material Works social media (@materialworks__)
- Fee helps offset logistics costs and support new artist opportunities

There is a 300 application cap for 2026. Once this limit is reached, no further submissions will be accepted.
