Indigenous Arts Projects

Overview

The Indigenous Arts Projects program is an annual multi-disciplinary project grant for Indigenous artists, collectives and organizations. TAC recognizes Indigenous peoples as the original inhabitants of Toronto and aims to increase participation in TAC funding and the creation and presentation of high-quality Indigenous art in the City.

Eligible Applicants

Indigenous artists, collectives, and organizations who self-identify as First Nations (Status or Non-status), Inuit, or Métis person of Canada. First-time applicants should contact the Indigenous Arts Program Manager with eligibility questions.

Project Categories

• Project Development (up to $3,000): Development of arts-based projects in beginning stage, including research, collaborative relationships, and accessing knowledge keepers. TAC may fund 100% of the project.
• Creation (up to $10,000): Artistic creation in any discipline, including research, development, film/media production, and commissions. TAC may fund 100% of the project. Only one grant per calendar year from this program.
• Exhibition, Presentation and Dissemination (up to $15,000): Exhibition, presentation and dissemination of Indigenous artistic work in any artistic discipline.
• Indigenous Arts Sector Development (up to $15,000): Projects that develop and advance Indigenous arts practice in Toronto, such as workshops, conferences, and resource development. Must benefit a group of Indigenous arts professionals or be an arts education project led by Indigenous artist(s).

Funding Restrictions

• Grants awarded may be less than the full amount requested.
• Except for Project Development and Creation categories, TAC will not fund 100% of a project; applicants must indicate other revenue sources.
• Projects completed prior to results announcement will not be funded.
• Projects must begin a minimum of 4 months after submission date.
• Projects must be completed within two years of Notification Letter date.

Ineligible Projects and Applicants

• Non-Indigenous artists, organizations, and collectives
• Organizations receiving Operating funding from TAC
• Professional artists pursuing undergraduate/graduate studies for work related to their academic program
• Schools that are part of Ontario's public or private education system
• Educational and religious institutions (unless clear separation in programming and budget)
• Projects with ongoing operating costs, equipment purchase, capital projects, fundraising, deficit reduction, or publications
• Activities taking place outside City of Toronto (except Indigenous-led projects based in Toronto providing direct benefit to Toronto Indigenous artists and communities)

Application Timeline

Rolling deadline. Project start date must be minimum 4 months after submission.
