The parabolic flight produces brief 22-second periods of weightlessness, providing access to this aspect of space. The selected artist will participate in one of these flights to create a conceptual artwork that documents their confrontation with this spatial component. The organization will consider the artist's engagement with weightlessness, technical feasibility within flight constraints, and aesthetic approach as the main evaluation criteria.
The CNES (Centre National d'Études Spatiales / French National Centre for Space Studies) Space Observatory conducts a cultural policy of production and acquisition of artworks to engage broader reflections through artistic creation on the uses of space beyond scientific, commercial, or military applications.
The artistic commission will assess the consideration of the weightlessness component, feasibility relative to technical flight constraints, and the aesthetic choices adopted by the artist.
The selected artwork will be publicly exhibited and then acquired into the CNES Space Observatory's contemporary art collection.
