The Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design at Indiana University Bloomington announces the open call for the 2028 McKinney International Art and Design Residency, aimed at established artists and designers whose primary country of residence is outside the United States.

Applicants must be established artists and designers with a record of national and international exhibitions. Applications are welcome from both studio-based practitioners and those working in the field of criticism.

Selected artists will undertake a four- to six-week residency between February 1 and April 1, 2028. Residents are required to remain in residence for the full period and will be featured in the McKinney Visiting Artist Lecture Series. They will coordinate with public-facing activities such as studio visits, open studios, and workshops focused on technical and/or conceptual innovations.

The program provides studio space, accommodation, and an USD 8,000 fellowship, disbursed in two installments: one prior to arrival to assist with travel expenses to and from Indianapolis Airport, and the remaining balance upon completion of the residency. Health insurance is provided for the duration of the residency and up to USD 500 in materials will be covered. Any additional production expenses are the responsibility of the selected artist.

Selection will be based on the merits of the applicant's professional career, their interest in engaging with an academic environment, and the proposal submitted to develop and expand their creative process through the use of Indiana University's facilities, collections, and research centers.

  • Application deadline: January 18, 2026
