Call for Submissions: CHEP Artist Roster for Murals, Glass + Wall Art, BC Children’s Hospital

Overview

BC Children's Hospital Foundation, working with Aartplace Art Consulting & Curation and HOST Consulting, invites artists and artist teams from British Columbia and the Yukon to apply for a curated roster of artists for 11 integrated art opportunities at the BC Children's Hospital centre for health complexity in Vancouver. A selection panel will identify prequalified artists representing up to 50 potential commissions. These may include painted or digitally produced murals, glass and window applications, participatory or community-based works, and framed or wall-based artworks. Inclusion in the roster does not guarantee a commission. Selected artists will be supported by the art consultant throughout the commissioning process.

Eligibility

Artists must live and/or work in British Columbia or the Yukon (Canada). Artists working in any media and at various stages of their careers are welcome. Artists with disabilities or who live with chronic illness, artists from local First Nations, urban Indigenous artists, and artists who self-identify as a member of an equity-denied and/or under-represented community are encouraged to apply. Artists should be open to collaboration and working alongside other artists and project partners.

Compensation

Opportunity budgets range from a maximum of $4,000 CAD to a maximum of $63,000 CAD, excluding taxes.

Submission Requirements

• Letter of Interest (up to 500 words): Describe your practice, experience, and interest in the Artist Roster and art opportunities. Include details about your background, connection to the region, the project, and the patient population.
• Artist CV or Résumé (1 page minimum, 4 pages maximum): Summarize education, qualifications, and previous arts experience. Include contact information (name, email, address, phone). If applying as a team, provide a CV for each person.
• Work Samples: Up to 10 images of examples of past work. One image per page. Include artist name(s), title, year, location, and medium information on each image page.
• Opportunities of Interest: Indicate which types of opportunities you wish to be considered for (digitally produced murals, murals from concept to installation, glass/window film artworks, participatory or community-based murals, or framed or wall-based artworks). You may select more than one.
• References: Contact information for three individuals who can speak to your experience, accomplishments, and ability to deliver projects on time and within budget while collaborating effectively. Include name, title, email, and phone number.

Selection Process

The Artist Roster will be selected by a panel comprising artists, arts professionals, community members, Indigenous representatives, members of the CHEP project team, and patient, family, and clinical representatives. The panel will review submissions and select prequalified artists to form the Artist Roster, considering past work, artistic vision, alignment with the project, and the curatorial vision. Aartplace will coordinate the selection process as a non-voting body. Successful artists will be notified after the roster selection is completed and may then be invited to one or more commissioning opportunities.

How to Submit

Submit via email to [email protected] by August 26, 2026, at 2:00pm PT. Submissions must be provided as a single PDF with a maximum file size of 20 MB. Each page must include the artist's name and page number. Do not submit sketches, concepts, or design proposals at this stage; any drafts included will not be sent to the panel.
