Creative Australia continues the Debra Porch Award in partnership with UNSW Galleries, Sydney and SAC Residency, Chiang Mai. This reciprocal award supports one Australian visual artist to undertake a residency in Thailand and one Thai visual artist to undertake a residency in Australia. The award honors artist Debra Porch's life work and commitment to fostering long-term artistic and cultural connections across the Asia-Pacific region.

  • Closing date: Tuesday 15 September 2026, 3pm AEST or 12pm Southeast Asia Standard Time
  • Notification date: December 2026
  • Residency dates: 6 weeks in 2027, to be negotiated with residency hosts
  • Info session: Thursday 27 August at 1pm AEST / 10am ICT
  • Australian artist in Thailand: $10,000 AUD to cover per diems, travel, insurance, and living expenses
  • Thai artist in Australia: $13,000 AUD to cover per diems, travel, insurance, and living expenses
  • Accommodation and studio access provided by host organisations
  • In-kind curatorial support and public program opportunities included
  • Must be a mid-career visual artist or working in interdisciplinary practice with interest in material exploration
  • Must be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia or Thailand
  • Must be eligible to travel internationally
  • Cannot have received the Debra Porch Award previously
  • Cannot have an overdue Creative Australia grant report or owe money to Creative Australia

All applications involving First Nations artists, communities or subject matter must adhere to the Protocols for using First Nations Cultural and Intellectual Property in the Arts. Successful applicants are required to comply with all Australian law relating to employment and engagement of people who work with children, including working with children checks and mandatory reporting.
