The City of Henderson invites emerging Las Vegas Valley artists to participate in a six-month mural apprenticeship (December 2026–May 2027) led by a professional artist. Participants will gain hands-on experience in mural design, project planning, budgeting, and large-scale painting techniques, and will complete their own public mural by designing and painting a Henderson park roll door.

  • Application deadline: September 10, 2026
  • Mandatory Project Information Webinar: Tuesday, August 25, Noon–1 pm
  • Apprenticeship period: December 2026–May 2027
  • Mural painting: April 19–25, 2027 (may shift due to weather)
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Current resident of the Las Vegas Valley (must provide current zip code)
  • Limited public mural experience (artists with at least 5 public murals will not be considered)
  • Large-scale painting experience on varied substrates (canvas, wood, fabric, drywall, brick, etc.)
  • Physically able to lift and carry materials, climb ladders, paint large surfaces, and work outside
  • Must obtain liability insurance during the mural painting process
  • Must attend the mandatory webinar on August 25
  • November–March: 1 hour per month for learning sessions with Lead Artist
  • November–March: 2 hours × 2 for presentations to City of Henderson Public Art team
  • November–March: 4–8 hours per month for site research, design, and design refinement
  • April 19–25: 30–40 hours to start and complete assigned mural
  • Artist Bio (250-word limit): Describe your creative practice and artistic interests
  • Artist CV (2-page limit): List relevant experience from education, training, exhibitions, commissions, and other experience
  • Letter of Interest (250-word limit): Explain why you are interested in this apprenticeship and what makes you a good candidate
  • Public Art Experience: Describe your public art experience
  • Visual Portfolio: Up to 5 examples of your artwork with title, year, size, location, and details (JPEG or PNG files)
