About
Purpose
The Mondrian Fund stimulates the development and visibility of visual arts and cultural heritage through financial grants in the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, making possible what the marketplace fails to facilitate in these disciplines.
Eligible Target Groups
Grants can be awarded to visual artists, institutions, organizations, curators, art observers, critics, researchers, and commissioners in visual art or cultural heritage fields, including those working collaboratively.
Visual Arts Disciplines
- Drawing, painting, printmaking, graphic art, sculpture, social sculpture and installation art
- Conceptual or performance art, artistic research, non-traditional forms of visual art
- Photography, audiovisual, digital, sound or (new) media art
- Visual arts applications or art in public spaces
Curators and Art Observers
Must be professionally active in contemporary visual arts or cultural heritage and carry out projects that deepen knowledge, visibility and insight in these fields in the Netherlands and/or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.
Cultural Heritage Definition
Material and immaterial heritage of Dutch society, including museum collections, archaeological finds, archives, stories, customs and habits associated with them. Does not include conservation and management of monuments, landscapes, or archaeological excavations.
Organizational Definitions
- Art Platform: organization with legal entity offering publicly accessible platform for innovative/experimental contemporary visual art, not collection-focused, with primary purpose of presentation without sales objective
- Gallery: professional, economically independent space open to public with successive exhibitions aimed at selling work of living artists from the Netherlands or Caribbean
- Art Fair: event where galleries and art buyers meet to present living artists and their work to interested visitors
Collaboration
Grants can be applied for by collaborating parties. Collaborative applicants must each submit separate application forms with all requested appendices, preferably submitted simultaneously. Institutions and artists may submit jointly or separately depending on grant type.
