Silvia Codignola is a visual artist working primarily with oil paint, egg tempera, watercolors, plaster, and clay. She has taught at Rome's Istituto Europeo di Design and has displayed works in private galleries and museums including Rome's Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna (2004) and Padiglione Italia of Venice's Biennale (2011). Her commissions include Rome's piazza San Cosimato's mosaic fountain, three large paintings for Il Tempo newspaper, and artworks for Francesco De Gregori and director Paolo Sorrentino.
The project takes inspiration from a repertory of objects, spatial configurations, and symbolic elements present in paintings of the late Gothic period and early Renaissance in Italy, reusing them in a poetic transposition. Research began at Villa I Tatti in 2022 with photographs of art pieces from Berenson's Library and develops through overlaps and modifications made by graphic intervention and collages.
