Overview
Ruby Mountain Project is an artist residency program based near Joshua Tree National Park in southern California, fostering connection, creativity, and care for both people and place through a cohort model. The residency welcomes artists and creatives of most disciplines to participate in meaningful shared experiences on the land.
Residency Details
- Residency programming runs from September through May
- Cohort lengths: 1, 2, or 7 weeks (most cohorts are 3 weeks)
- Most cohorts have up to 3 artists at a time
- No expectations for specific amounts of work to be created; rest, play, and experimentation are welcome

- Housing options: vintage travel trailers, tents, or find your own accommodations
- Private and shared studio spaces in converted shipping containers and outdoor spaces

- Some meals provided (at least 2); residents have access to shared and private kitchens

Eligibility
Open to artists and creatives of any discipline and career stage (emerging, mid-career, established) based anywhere in the world. BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, and early career/development artists are especially encouraged to apply. Spouses/partners allowed for full stay as non-collaborators; pets are not allowed.
Application & Fees
Applications are made through a Google form with no application fee. Residency fee is a sliding scale based on financial capacity, length of stay, accommodation type, and studio space use (base $500 USD). Work trade, tent camping, and day use options available to reduce costs. Scholarships not currently available but planned for the future.
