About
Overview
Argo Studios is a multidisciplinary art residency in the heart of Athens, Greece. Residents have private bedrooms and studios, access to a large shared studio, and the chance to connect to the Athens art scene. The program is intended for artists, writers, scholars, and performers seeking inspiration from this vibrant city.
Who Can Apply
Anyone aged 18-118 with a creative project or practice. We welcome both emerging and well-established creative practitioners and scholars working in sculpture, painting, drawing, new media, digital photography, animation, architecture, performance, dance, theater, writing, composing, music, textile art, and more.
Duration & Schedule
Minimum 2 weeks, maximum 3 months. Residents can stay for shorter periods, but most people come for one to two months. Each month includes a shared dinner with residents, a contemporary art tour, a cultural history day trip, and a day-long Open Studios event (all optional).
Accommodation
Housed in the nearby neighborhood of Kypseli, accommodations are spread across two apartments in a neoclassical building from 1928. Residents have private rooms (or shared rooms for a reduced price), with two bathrooms, two kitchens, a living room, several balconies, and a rooftop terrace. The building overlooks Plateia Agiou Georgiou. The accommodations are a 20-minute walk from Argo Studios through Pedion Tou Areos park.
Studio Space & Equipment
Argo Studios is located on the 4th floor of a brutalist concrete building on Kallidromiou street in Exarcheia. The space offers simple studio set-ups with tables, easels, lamps, and storage. Access to a wood shop with tools, safety gear, and one-on-one assistance is provided. AV equipment available includes 6 televisions, a mic, and an amp. You will need to provide your own art supplies; there are 6 excellent art supply shops within a short walk. Performance and dance rehearsal space can be arranged upon request.
Additional Access
Residents have access to a rotating series of cultural events hosted in the Argo Annex project space, including artist talks and lectures by visiting guest artists, group and solo exhibitions, film screenings, workshops, and performances.
