Art Heritage Presentation - Mondriaan Fund

Overview

The Mondriaan Fund provides grants for outstanding presentations by cultural institutions in the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. Support is available for exhibitions and other forms of presentation that transcend the ordinary, engage the public in an appealing way, and are contextually relevant to contemporary visual art and/or cultural heritage.

For Whom

Cultural institutions in the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom that focus on presenting cultural heritage and/or visual art, including museums, art centres and venues, archives engaged in public presentation, and other art and heritage initiatives. Institutions for art education and post-academic institutions are excluded.

What Type of Presentations

Applications are accepted for distinctive presentations featuring work by internationally renowned artists; engaging exhibitions highlighting new perspectives; presentations developed through exemplary co-creation with the public; presentations with special loans and/or newly commissioned work within a compelling exhibition concept; or other exploratory, innovative, or ambitious art or heritage presentations. All presentations must be non-standard and open to the public.

Grant Amount

The contribution is determined per application and is a maximum of 40% of the variable project costs. The minimum project budget must be higher than €25,000. Contributions of €100,000 or more are very exceptional and require prior contact with the Mondriaan Fund.

Key Requirements

• Project must demonstrate non-standard presentation (prerequisite for eligibility)
• Presentations must be open to the public
• Not aimed at generating profit or sales
• Cannot be festivals, biennales/triennales, or similar events held once a year or less
• Publications, documentaries, symposia, or conferences only eligible if integral to presentation as minor side programming
• Fair compensation for artists is obligatory and must be included in budget
• All staff must be paid per applicable collective labour agreements

How to Apply

Applications can be submitted at any time of the year using the Mondriaan Fund's online application system. An account is required before submission. A 3-month processing period is required, though processing time may be longer due to high application volume. No grants are awarded retrospectively.

Terms and Conditions

• Institution must be a non-profit legal entity established in the Netherlands or Caribbean part of the Kingdom
• Activities must take place in the jurisdiction where the institution is established
• Only presentations open to the public are eligible
• All cultural institutions must subscribe to Fair Practice Code, Culture Governance Code, and Diversity & Inclusion Code
• If Art Heritage Presentation grant is rejected, artist's fee grant may be applied for the same project (provided eligibility criteria are met)
