Overview

A hands-on training session in paper ceramic kiln construction and firing, led by artist Eugénie Faurie. This accessible, experimental approach to ceramics uses low-temperature firing with minimal technical resources, drawing on primitive and contemporary alternative techniques.

Who can apply

Four professionals working in visual arts or craft arts who wish to learn to build a paper kiln, particularly to become autonomous in firing ceramic pieces at lower cost.

What to bring

• 3 test pieces in grogged stoneware (Praf type), well dried (maximum 30 cm diameter)
• Clothing suitable for outdoor work and proximity to fire

Learning objectives

• Understand and master the principles and conditions of primitive firing by paper kiln
• Build a tipi-style paper kiln adapted to your needs and context (weather and location)
• Manage progressive temperature rise to quartz point (540°C) safely
• Identify and prevent hazards during the firing process
