$25,000
Fusion at Neon, West Olney Road, Norfolk, VA

Work-in-Progress public art project at Fusion Apartments in Norfolk, VA. Rather than a static piece on a pedestal, the artwork should flow and interact with the space—perhaps wrapping around a corner, climbing a building, or extending into the surroundings. The site is equipped with electricity, allowing for potential lighting or other interactive features.

William Nemitoff from New Orleans has been selected for this project. The committee was particularly interested in the underlying theme of whimsy throughout his previous projects.

Artwork will be designed to engage both pedestrian and vehicular traffic, with a scale that commands attention from a distance while offering intricate details that can be appreciated up close. The piece should explore motion, either through kinetic elements or the visual perception of movement, allowing it to interact dynamically with its environment while reflecting neighborhood themes of water, glass, fluidity, and reflection.

The Norfolk Public Art Commission will match up to $25,000 for each project. This is a Public-Private Partnership with the majority of funding from Fusion Apartments.
