Colors by the Lake is a boutique outdoor art and craft show limited to a maximum of 50 artists, held at Bayview Inn in Petoskey, Michigan. The focus is on handmade and artist-designed items, craft, unique gifts, authors, inventors, and designers. There is no music, alcohol, or food—the focus is solely on art, craft, and unique gifts.

  • Saturday & Sunday, October 3–4, 2026, 10am to 5pm
  • Setup: Saturday 6:30am to 9am
  • All vehicles must be off festival footprint by 9am

Open to emerging artists of all levels. Welcome categories include artist-made work, production/studio work (with or without assistants), craft, inventors, designers, and other creative offerings.

  • Submit minimum 4 images for jury review
  • May apply in up to 2 categories
  • Each event is juried separately; acceptance to one event does not guarantee acceptance to others
  • Application jury is reviewed by a panel of experts
  • Application Jury Fee: $15 if paid before August 4, 2026
  • Application Jury Fee: $25 if paid after August 4, 2026
  • Sponsor booths start at $600
  • Booth spaces: approximately 10' wide × 10' deep with 2-foot spacing between booths
  • Booth and a half and double booths available on limited basis
  • Only 81 booth spaces available
  • All artist exhibitor tents must be white (exceptions for branded sponsor booths)
  • No cheap camping tents; pop-up tents not recommended; if used, minimum 40 pounds per leg (160 pounds total) required
  • Easy load in and load out next to booth (weather permitting)
  • No day-before setup

Displays must be professional and pleasing to the eye. Booth display should reflect the images submitted for jury review; if display changes, updated photos must be sent. Booth checks will be done Friday morning. Do not infringe on neighbors' space or obstruct walkways. No handmade signs. No chairs in walkways.

  • Participating artists listed on Facebook event page
  • Designated reserved unloading area
  • Staff support on location throughout event
  • Marketing includes social media ads, posters, rack cards, local tourism websites, local area signs, and print ads
  • Categories capped with no more than 25% jewelry
  • Sponsor spaces (home service repairs, car dealerships, contract retailers) limited to 4–6 booths
