Position Overview
Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Painting–Studio Fine Art (with secondary focus in Drawing) at The Art School, part of DePaul University's College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences in Chicago, Illinois. Position begins September 1, 2027.
Key Responsibilities
- Creative practice: Produce and exhibit high-quality artwork and/or engage in related creative activities
- Teaching: Teach 2 undergraduate classes each of the three quarters in painting and/or painting and drawing studio fine art, with additional opportunities through Liberal Studies and Honors Programs
- Community engagement: Contribute to The Art School's academic environment and collaborate with faculty colleagues
- Service: Participate in service activities and meetings for The Art School, college, and university
- Student support: Support recruitment, mentoring, advising, retention, and individual mentorship
- Visibility: Contribute to The Art School's visibility through exhibitions, creative activities, and events
Qualifications
- Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Painting or in Painting and Drawing (fine art studio)
- Practicing artist with established exhibition/creative activities record
- Minimum 2 years of college/university-level teaching experience completed after graduate school
Compensation & Benefits
This is a 10-month position. Salary range: $66,126–$69,525, commensurate with qualifications and experience. DePaul University offers excellent benefits, including medical, dental, retirement, paid time off, and tuition benefit.
About The Art School
Located in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood, The Art School offers three degree programs: BA in Art; BA in Art, Media, and Design; and BFA in Art, Media, and Design. The school also offers seven minors/shared minors in art. Teaching and creative spaces include dedicated painting, drawing, printmaking, photography (darkroom and digital), sculpture studios, and digital computer studios.
