About
Overview
ATHICA calls artists working in any media with a cohesive body of work to apply to exhibit. Artists may apply individually or propose small group exhibitions. Curators and curatorial teams are also welcome to propose exhibitions. All work is worthy; challenging, progressive, and innovative work is welcome.
Exhibition Opportunities
Selected artists/curators may be offered a solo or small group exhibition in the main gallery at 675 Pulaski St. or a solo exhibition at ATHICA@Ciné (satellite location at Ciné Arthouse Cinema, 234 W Hancock Ave.). Main gallery exhibitions are about one month; Ciné exhibitions are two months, artist-self-curated, and installed/deinstalled by the artist.
If Selected
Main gallery: ATHICA assigns a curator, collaborates with artist on curation, provides a small artist stipend for transportation and shipping, and hosts a reception. Ciné: Artist self-curates, hosts own reception (beverages via Ciné cash bar), and handles installation/deinstallation.
Key Dates
- Annual deadline: June 30
- Deadline for 2026–27 exhibitions: June 30, 2025
- Exhibitions scheduled up to two calendar years in advance
Application Requirements
Submit completed application form including artist statement (or curatorial statement), CV, brief bio, and 10–15 high-quality JPG/JPEG/PNG images or video links combined into a single Word document or PDF. Label each item with brief description, title, and date.
Artist Responsibilities
Complete loan and exhibition agreement; prepare artwork professionally (framing required, subject to ATHICA review); provide master image list and price sheet; co-promote exhibition on social media; handle installation costs and materials (for Ciné shows); provide mandatory promotional materials (biography ~120 words, headshot, and image list one month prior; optional brief statement ~250 words).
Sales & Commission
Artwork may only be purchased directly from the artist. Artist agrees to donate 30% of any resulting sales by check to ATHICA as a tax-deductible donation, shared equally between ATHICA and Ciné. Work sold during the show must remain until show conclusion; interested buyers are referred to the artist.
Exhibition Installation (Ciné)
Space available: right side wall in main hallway, about 30 linear feet and 10 feet plus height. All artwork must be wall-mounted and ready-to-hang using monkey hooks (preferred) or 2-inch course-threaded drywall screws applied by hand. No gluestrips or double-stick tape. Use clear, removable shipping labels (Avery 15664). Artist provides all materials and tools, handles all installation costs, and is responsible for repairing wall holes with spackle and paint (Ciné provides paint).
