About
Overview
The Art Connection grant supports festivals, manifestations, and other public initiatives that connect new audiences to visual art by presenting contemporary visual art in alternative contexts. The grant is designed for organizations not primarily focused on art presentation but able to offer dedicated space to introduce visual art to audiences outside the traditional art world.
Eligibility
You must be a legal entity or collective without profit motive whose activities include organizing events. You must be domiciled in the Netherlands or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. You cannot represent a museum or art institution. If an artist is directly involved, they must be artistically active in visual arts and embedded in the professional visual arts practice in the Netherlands and/or Caribbean part of the Kingdom. A realistic honorarium for any involved artist must be included in the budget.
What the grant covers
The grant supports a one-off event or activity in the field of contemporary visual art. The maximum grant is 40% of the variable project expenses associated with the visual art program.
How to apply
Apply at any time of the year using the Mondriaan Fund's online application system. You will need an account to submit your application. Once your application is complete and fully submitted, the Mondriaan Fund aims to process it within three months. Grants cannot be awarded retroactively, so submit well in advance of your desired start date.
Application requirements
Your application must include a description of your organization's vision, mission, and profile; a plan with a visual art program, communication plan explaining how you will reach your intended audience, and explanation of local embedment; and a detailed budget covering all expenses with quotations.
Assessment criteria
The advisory committee assesses your application based on: the artistic and substantive quality of recent activities and how the organization relates to the current context; the artistic quality and distinctiveness of the visual art program for your organization; whether the organization can convincingly reach new audiences for visual art; how the program contributes to art and culture in the area; and whether the program relates to current societal developments and contributes to innovation.
Important notice
The Art Connection grant closes on 30 December 2024, 16.00 (Dutch time zone) / 11.00 (Caribbean time zone). It will be replaced in spring 2025 by a new grant for Art Heritage Festivals focusing on the presentation of art and/or heritage at festivals or comparable events.
