Overview
The exhibition continues artist Lamia Joreige's long-term project "Uncertain Times," exploring the period between the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the establishment of French and British Mandates in Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine (1913–1921). Using extensive archival investigation and artistic intervention, the exhibition examines how narratives of the past are constructed, circulated, and reinterpreted, and how they remain embedded in present-day realities.
Featured Work
Joreige presents the historical frieze Uncertain Times – War Diaries, originally commissioned for the 25th Sydney Biennial. The work draws from the diaries of Australian soldiers who fought in the Levant during World War I, combining the artist's drawings and notes with photographs, maps, personal and military accounts, and paintings produced during deployment in Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and Egypt (1914–1919).
