Transition Grants provide post-touring support to National Theater Project Creation & Touring Grant recipients to support continuity for ensembles following the completion of touring. Grants support ensemble management, infrastructure, capacity-building, archiving, or further touring of NTP-funded work.

  • Grants up to $15,000; typical grants $7,000-$10,000
  • Awarded in two payments: 75% upon award, 25% upon completion of final report
  • Continue administrative roles (producer, tour manager) that add value to ensemble operations
  • Network with contacts developed through NTP grant period
  • Professional development or consulting to sustain ensemble capacity
  • Planning to strengthen governance and structure
  • Strategic planning for incorporating touring into work portfolio
  • Peer support and technical assistance from other sources
  • Re-tooling work to position ensemble for additional touring to new venues
  • Facility rehabilitation or expenses
  • Subsidy of performance fees
  • Capital, endowment, or cash reserve funds
  • Clear and well-articulated organizational need and/or opportunity
  • Specific plan for addressing need/opportunity within ±18 months of submission deadline
  • Plan's potential to address need in a way that contributes to sustainability
  • Budget well-aligned to plan activities

Application is by invitation only. Submit a short online grant application addressing selection criteria and attach a letter of commitment if appropriate. All organizations must provide IRS W-9 Form and DUNS number.

  • April 15, 2026: RFP and link emailed to invited artists
  • May 15, 2026: Proposals due 11:59 PM Eastern Time
  • May 2026: NTP team reviews proposals
  • June 2026: Awards made
  • May 1, 2026: Final reports due

The grant recipient must submit the grant report by the assigned deadline in order to receive the final grant award. While there is no specific time limit for expenditure of funds, priority will be given to proposals for projects completed within 18 months from submission deadline.
