About
Overview
Join the Alberta Potters' Association for this juried teapot exhibition and sale. Submit wheel-thrown or handbuilt teapots (functional or sculptural) that are minimum 75% ceramic.
Key dates
- Application closes: February 9th, 2026 at 11:59pm
- Artists notified: March 6th, 2026
- Physical items due (for final in-person jury): April 17th, 2026
- Exhibition: May 1st, 2026, 6–9pm at NVRLND arts foundation, Calgary, Alberta
Eligibility
Open to Alberta residents and APA Associate Members (who may reside outside Alberta). Students must attend Alberta University of the Arts or be currently taking classes at a studio and have been making ceramics for 5 years or less.
Submission requirements
- Submit up to 5 teapots per artist
- Work must be minimum 75% ceramic
- Multiple photos of different angles required, with good lighting and clear focus
- All teapots must be for sale
Teapot categories
- Wheel Thrown: majority of teapot is wheel thrown (handbuilt attachments and off-wheel alterations allowed)
- Handbuilt: teapot made without the wheel
- Student: wheel thrown or handbuilt, made by a qualifying student
- People's Choice: voted by attendees
Jury criteria
- Originality: fresh, new, individual, or personal approach
- Creative Expression: memorable, emotionally/intellectually moving, challenges thinking
- Technical Skill: high quality execution
- Surface Design: interesting/creative techniques, well-considered composition
- Photo Quality: multiple angles, good lighting, clear focus, minimal background clutter
Fees
- Current APA members: $15 per submission
- Non-members: $25 per submission
- Students: no fee (must complete at least 1 volunteer shift for the event; if unable, may pay $25 fee instead)
Prizes & sales
Prizes TBA for Best Wheel Thrown, Best Handbuilt, Best Student, and People's Choice categories. Winners expected at the show at 7pm to receive awards; prizes will be mailed if winner absent. Consignment split: 30% to APA, 70% to the artist.
How to enter
Pay submission fee via website before the deadline. Mail or deliver physical teapots by April 17th, 2026, packed appropriately in a box ready for transport. Contact Kendra at [email protected] with questions.
