Overview

The Jan van Eyck Academie is an institute for research and production in the fields of fine art, design, and theory. Every year, 48 international researchers realise their individual or collective projects in an artistic and challenging environment. Artists, designers, and theoreticians can submit independently formulated proposals for research and/or production.

Key dates

• Application deadline: 15 April 2008
• Research period start: 1 January (annually), or flexible start dates by prior arrangement

Departments

• Fine Art: high-quality research in an environment encouraging questioning of assumptions, forms, meanings and contexts in art practice
• Design: research in public space, urban research, alternative web practices, identity, print and books, spatial and product design
• Theory: international platform for critical inquiry at the interface of theory, philosophy, aesthetics, and psychoanalysis with the visual arts

What researchers receive

• Own studio
• Stipend
• Access to library, documentation centre, and various workshops (wood, graphic production, photography, digital media, time-based media)
• Assistance with print work, publication editing and distribution, and event publicity
• Advising from established artists, designers, and theoreticians

Application

Candidates can apply for a one-year or two-year research period. It is also possible to apply for a different period and starting date.
