A self-directed residency open to visual artists, writers, performers, musicians, dancers, architects, academics, and other creative practitioners. Residencies run 10 days to 1 month anytime between January 15-February 15, 2026 in Athens, Greece. The program welcomes emerging and well-established practitioners of all ages 18-118, with a focus on process, cultural heritage, craft, ecology, and experimental work.

Residents stay in a gorgeous neoclassical building from 1928 in the creative neighborhood of Kypseli, housed across two apartments. The building features comfortable private and shared rooms, two bathrooms, two kitchens, a living room with carved archway, and two balconies overlooking Plateia Agiou Georgiou. The square is full of bars, cafés, and restaurants. A 20-minute walk through Pedion Tou Areos park connects accommodation to the studios.

Studios are located on the 4th floor of a brutalist building on Kallidromiou street in Exarcheia, with peak 90s aesthetics and huge light-filled windows. Each resident receives a simply furnished studio with table, chair, shelves, and lamp. Shared common areas include a living room, kitchen, woodshop with tools and materials, and access to AV equipment (TVs, mic and amp, projector). A wood shop offers one-on-one assistance.

  • €65 per night (about €910 per two weeks) for a private bedroom
  • €50 per night (€700 per two weeks) for a shared bedroom
  • Includes: accommodation, bills, studio access, participation in monthly events, and woodshop access
  • Does not include: travel costs or food (recommend €100-€300 per week for food)

Monthly open studios, gallery tours, performances, workshops, and local engagement are encouraged but optional. Residents can offer workshops or talks for local audiences. A monthly Open Studios event allows resident artists and writers to share works in progress with the public.

We support artists working in sculpture, painting, drawing, new media, digital photography, animation, architecture, performance, dance, theater, writing, composing, music, textile art, and more. You must provide your own art supplies; excellent art supply shops are within walking distance. If interested in specific performance or dance rehearsal space, we can arrange that. Access to rotating cultural events at Argo Annex includes artist talks, exhibitions, film screenings, workshops, and performances.

We are keen for residents to engage with the local community if desired, but this is optional. If your project includes a plan for community engagement, you will be asked to describe how as part of your application.
