Arts and Crafts Residency

Overview

A 1-month residency program for professionals in arts and crafts, taking place between January and December 2026. This initiative is part of the 'Re-enchanting Villa Medici' program, launched in 2022 with support from the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation, which aims to showcase the excellence of French and Italian craftsmanship.

Residency conditions

• 1-month residency at Villa Medici (Rome, Italy)
• Provision of a room in shared accommodation
• If required, access to a shared workshop
• Access to work tools available to Villa Medici residents
• Assistance in establishing contacts with local production partners, artists and companies
• Possibility that Villa Medici may request one or more copies of objects/works created during residency to be incorporated into redevelopment projects

Financial terms

• Transportation costs covered up to €1,000 return
• Residence grant: €2,500
• Production grant available based on submitted budget (maximum €5,000)
• Additional resources may be allocated if work is intended specifically for Villa Medici redevelopment projects, along with possibility of a second residency

Eligibility

The call is addressed to professionals in the arts and crafts sector.

Application requirements

• Completed application form on the online platform
• Photocopy of both sides of an identity document
• Detailed presentation of residency project (5 pages maximum): research, technical requirements, production schedule and, if applicable, production budget
• CV (maximum 2 pages)
• Portfolio presenting a selection of past creations (10 pages maximum)

Submission of an application constitutes a firm commitment to take part in the residency if the application is accepted.
