Fairbanks Arts Association is accepting applications for solo, group, or curated exhibitions in the Bear Gallery during 2028 (February through November). Work samples should be cohesive and completed within the last five years. Applications are reviewed blind by a panel of professional Alaskan artists.

  • Application deadline: October 31, 2026
  • Applicants notified: Early 2027
  • Exhibition period: February–November 2028
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must reside in Alaska
  • Artists/groups may have one exhibition in the gallery once every four years
  • Artists and/or groups who exhibited before 2024 are eligible this year (curated exhibitions exempt from rotation policy)

Submit 7–10 work samples (images and/or videos) completed within the last five years via CaFE portfolio. Up to 3 video files may be included in the maximum of 10 uploads. For group exhibitions, submit at least one image/video by each participating artist. For curated exhibitions, provide work samples from at least three artists. Signatures and names visible in samples should be blurred, removed, or covered for blind review.

The artist statement should meaningfully supplement your work samples. If samples are recent pieces you intend to exhibit, describe your planned exhibition and provide context. If samples are not representative of your intended exhibition, provide general insight regarding your techniques, concepts, and/or perspective as an artist.

  • Solo Exhibition: One artist
  • Group Exhibition: Separate works of two or more artists with no designated curator
  • Curated Exhibition: Curator selects theme, conceptual focus, and included artwork; curated exhibitions with a juried component or call for entry in the gallery are not permitted

Framed or encased artwork larger than 18" × 24" must use plexiglass instead of glass. Prohibited hanging hardware: sawtooth hangers, triangle hangers, command strips, string, and tape. Artworks must not shed, deteriorate, produce odors, incorporate living materials or organisms, or include AI-generated imagery. The gallery has power outlets in both spaces; exhibitions requiring screens, speakers, or special equipment should contact the Visual Arts Coordinator. Fairbanks Arts cannot pay traveling exhibition shipping costs.

Fairbanks Arts retains the right to refuse exhibition of artworks containing violence, inappropriate language, political or religious motifs ill-suited for a borough facility, or content that is discriminatory or culturally appropriative.
