Medialab Matadero presents the fifth edition of its annual Situated Research Residency programme. The programme selects three research and creation projects exploring relationships between contemporary art, design, science, technology, and society with a critical, experimental approach open to collaboration.

January to July 2027. While artists do not need to be in Madrid for the entire period, regular and extended research stays at Matadero are required.

Individuals, groups of individuals, and non-profit legal entities. Applicants must hold Spanish nationality or that of an EU member state. Projects may be in art, design, architecture, urban planning, economics, film, photography, journalism, digital media, environmental sciences, philosophy, engineering, social studies, political science, digital tool programming, material sciences, activism, or other fields addressing Medialab's lines of work.

Submitted projects must connect explicitly and coherently with one or more of Medialab Matadero's recent programme themes: LAB 1 Medios Sintientes, LAB 2 The Metabolic Sublime, LAB 3 Synthetic Minds, LAB 4 Weird Futures, LAB 5 The Mechanics of Truth.

Each selected project receives €10,000 to support development, including research, creation, production, documentation, mediation, travel, materials, equipment, collaborations, and related expenses. Medialab covers return travel costs for selected residents outside Spain.
