Overview
International Potato Institute (IPI) is an artist-run nature, art, and design platform in Fujino, Japan. How to Live — In Practice is a five-day immersive field school bringing together artists, farmers, craftspeople, chefs, designers, and ecological practitioners to explore how creativity can inspire more connected and sustainable ways of living.
Location
Fujino, a progressive mountain village outside Tokyo (approximately one hour by train from central Tokyo). Fujino is home to Permaculture Center Japan, an early Transition Town community, Japan's first accredited Waldorf school, and thriving local networks of artists, farmers, craftspeople, and ecological practitioners.
Program Activities
Participants will work with local artists, farmers, craftspeople, chefs, and ecological practitioners to explore sustainability as embedded creative practice. Activities include harvesting and cooking with Fujino's celebrated yuzu at a mountainside orchard, and creating color from the autumn landscape using locally sourced chestnuts, seasonal plants, and roots through traditional natural dyeing techniques.
