Overview
The Falls Community Arts Exchange invites artists to experience and engage with the vibrant arts community in Fergus Falls, Minnesota and connect with Springboard for the Arts' work in rural creative community development. Visiting artists reside in a one-bedroom apartment in downtown Fergus Falls and have access to support from Springboard staff, connections to local artists and leaders, and a coalition of local host partners.
Two Program Options
- Project Based Exchange: 4-week residency to complete a collaborative project with a local partner
- DIY Exchange: flexible self-directed stays of 2–14 days on a rolling basis
Project Based Exchange Benefits
- $4,000 stipend to support living and project expenses
- Travel and caregiving support stipend (up to $1,000)
- Lodging and workspace in a one-bedroom apartment above Springboard's offices in downtown Fergus Falls
- Storytelling and documentation support (photos, videos, etc.)
- Project mentorship from Springboard staff
DIY Exchange Benefits
- Sliding scale registration fees starting at $50/night, with some financial assistance available
- Lodging and workspace in a one-bedroom apartment above Springboard's offices in downtown Fergus Falls
- Creative community ecosystem tour and conversation with Springboard staff
- Support connecting to local artists and organizations
Eligibility
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Participate with an arts and culture related purpose
- Project Based Exchange: live in the United States
- Project Based Exchange: live at least 50 miles distance from Fergus Falls, MN
- Project Based Exchange: not an employee or board member of Springboard for the Arts
- Project Based Exchange: not an immediate family member of Springboard staff or board member
Key Dates
- DIY Exchange: currently accepting applications for stays between December 2026–March 2027
- DIY Exchange: open year-round on a rolling basis
- Project Based Exchange: applications closed in February 2026; new round anticipated in December 2026 for exchanges in 2027
How to Apply
DIY Exchange applications are non-competitive and accepted on a first-come, first-served basis (subject to availability). Artists must briefly define how the Exchange will support their individual goals.
Guests and Pets
Family or friends may stay in the apartment with advance notice of at least 3 days. The apartment has a full-size bed, couch, and pull-out cot. Service animals are welcome; other pets are not permitted.
