About
Overview
FRAU* schafft Raum is a feminist memorial and art space in Vienna addressing femicide and gender-based violence. Kulturverein NuDo4 invites women artists to submit exhibition concepts for the 2027–2028 programming period. Four exhibitions will be selected, each running approximately 24 weeks, viewable around the clock through the space's windows and open to visitors during the day.
Theme
Femicide in connection with the site's history, including violence against women, women's rights as human rights, solidarity, and empowerment.
Eligibility
- Minimum: completed degree from art university/college plus 3+ years regular professional experience (public exhibitions, performances, or similar)
- Alternative: 8+ years regular exhibition experience without art university/college degree
- No age limit or geographic restriction
- Previously exhibited works permitted if not shown in Vienna before or during the FRAU* schafft Raum exhibition
- Artists who have already exhibited at FRAU* schafft Raum may not apply again
- Organizers particularly welcome submissions from Black women artists*, artists of color, artists with displacement/migration history, and artists with disabilities
Application Requirements
- CV/artistic vita (PDF, max. 1 A4 page)
- Anonymized concept (single PDF, max. 2 A4 pages, max. 2,500 characters including spaces) describing the project plus visualizations/sketches
- Concepts must be fully anonymized; no links, named past exhibitions, or identifying references permitted
- Indicate scheduling preferences if needed (e.g., overlapping exhibitions or travel)

- Notifications (acceptances/rejections): mid-November 2026
- Exhibition Periods: mid-January – end of June 2027; mid-July – end of December 2027; mid-January – end of June 2028; mid-July – end of December 2028 (each approximately 24 weeks)
Awards & Benefits
- €2,500 gross exhibition honorarium per selected exhibition (covering material, transport, travel costs)
- For joint submissions by multiple artists, honorarium is shared among them
- Organized vernissage (opening event) for each exhibition
- No application fee
Selection Process
Anonymized review by five-member expert jury: one representative each from the Human Rights Office of the City of Vienna and the Women's Service of the City of Vienna, plus an art journalist, an art historian, and an artist. Projects assessed on engagement with theme and artistic execution.
