MoCA Arlington is pleased to present Some Shining Coil of Wind, a new site-specific installation by Resident Artist Emily Fussner on view from October 3, 2026 through January 24, 2027 at MoCA Arlington's Wyatt Resident Gallery.

About the Work

Some Shining Coil of Wind responds to the architecture and light conditions of the gallery, combining paper pulp sculptures, video, sound, and a floor covering into a single artwork. Light gently shimmers and refracts throughout the gallery, allowing viewers to exist in an extended moment of gentle beauty. Suspended in the middle of the installation are paper pulp sculptures created from cracks in the pavement, representing fractures that expand or are paved over as an expression of care and mending. The sculptures scatter their own shadows throughout the installation and across a reflective mylar cutout of a tree's shadow that spreads across the gallery floor.

About the Artist

Emily Fussner is a multidisciplinary artist whose work highlights peripheral patterns in everyday spaces, exploring questions of transience and presence, fragility and strength, perception and care. She holds an MFA in Visual Arts from George Mason University (2019) and was awarded a 2018-2019 Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Graduate Fellowship and a summer residency at GlogauAIR through American University's MFA Studio Berlin in 2019.
