The Hamburg Ministry for Culture and Media invites applications for 8 three-month residencies in 2027 and 2028 at Westwerk artists' centre in Hamburg. The residency is a residential and work grant requiring the artist to live and work at Westwerk while developing an artistic project and networking with Hamburg's cultural scene.

Westwerk, located on Hamburg's Fleetinsel in the heart of the city, brings together artists' studios, galleries, an art bookshop, and a small theatre.

  • Professional solo artists aged 23 or older
  • Must reside outside Germany
  • Work in visual arts, photography, film, multimedia, or music (with clear connection to visual arts)
  • Not intended for curators
  • Rent-free live/work apartment accommodation in Hamburg
  • €900 monthly allowance for living expenses
  • Support for one return journey
  • €500 grant towards production of final public presentation
  • Mentorship by Westwerk e.V.
  • Networking and artistic exchange opportunities with Hamburg's cultural community
