Eligibility
- Artists living or working in Virginia, Maryland, or DC may submit a solo show proposal
- Groups of artists in the region may submit a group show proposal
- Curators living anywhere may submit a proposal for a show featuring artists from the region
Media & Artwork Specifications
- Painting, drawing, collage, etc. must be framed or fully finished, wired, and ready to hang
- Sculpture must be less than 9 inches deep and lighter than 30 pounds
- No floor-mounted or free-standing work
- No work requiring electricity
Application Requirements
- Submit 6–12 images
- Maximum 3 entries
Selection Criteria
Proposals will be evaluated by Athenaeum Gallery Director Twig Murray on: what the artist is trying to achieve or communicate; uniqueness or interest; technical excellence; and recent display history in the area.
Sales & Commission
The Athenaeum Gallery retains a 40% commission on sold works and issues a check for 60% of the sales price within 30 days of the show closing. Work does not have to be for sale. For curator-proposed shows, commission structure can be adjusted by agreement.
Insurance & Delivery
All works are insured by the gallery for 100% of retail price during the show. Artists are responsible for delivery and pickup of unsold work at the show's close.
