Soho Photo Gallery, New York's longest running cooperative gallery, announces its 22nd International Alternative Processes Competition. This will be the second Alternative Processes show at the new gallery location at 539 West 23rd Street.

  • Opening: Wednesday, December 2, 2026
  • Closing: Sunday, December 20, 2026
  • Opening reception: Thursday, December 3, 2026, 6–8 pm

Alternative processes include, but are not limited to: albumen, cyanotype, van Dyke brown, platinum/palladium, gum bichromate, bromoil, salt print, tintype, ziatype, daguerreotype, image transfers, liquid emulsion, anthotypes, photogravure, and chemigrams as well as handmade prints created from digital negatives. As long as the image originates using alternative processes and is not generated by AI, it can be entered.

  • Submit 5–15 images (digital upload via callforentry.org)
  • Maximum 1 video allowed
  • No image may measure more than 40" on the longest side

Open to photographers age 18 or older. Members of Soho Photo Gallery are excluded. No limitation as to subject matter.

Amy Arbus, renowned photographer whose work has appeared in The New Yorker, New York Magazine, and The New York Times. Her photographs are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, and The New York Public Library.
