The Art Committee intends to commission exterior sculpture work for the SLCC Aerospace Engineering Training Center. This call is open to artists residing in Utah, Arizona, Idaho, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and Wyoming. Potential locations along the south face of the building include the entrance plaza and several landscaping areas. The Aerospace Engineering Training Center is designed to evoke aerodynamics, with interior spaces featuring exposed elements to create an artistically industrial space, including taxiway imagery. Artwork should embrace aviation and the themes of aerodynamics through its design. The Committee envisions the Center as a gateway to the Westpointe Campus, celebrating aviation and serving as a gathering place for students, faculty, and visitors. They seek artwork that aligns with this vision and helps create a gathering space, presenting a clear vision of the Aviation Maintenance program's goals and strengths. The artwork’s subject matter and content must be appropriate for public exhibition and not contain advertising, religious references, sexual or violent content, or convey political partisanship.
$70,000 is available for the project. This project budget covers all related expenses for this Public Art commission, including (but not limited to) artist fees, fabrication, support structures, insurance, shipping, travel, lighting, installation, and documentation.
