The SPREEWALDATELIER 2027 "Open-Air Studio" invites sculptors and caricaturists to gather in Lübbenau's Old Town for a one-week creative event. For over 20 years, this renowned artistic community has brought together artists from Germany and abroad to engage in creative work, with residents and visitors watching and engaging with artists during the process.

  • Friday, September 4 – Saturday, September 11, 2027
  • September 4, 6:00 p.m.: Welcome celebration "LÜBBENAUBRÜCKE Bridge Day" hosted by the Friends of the LÜBBENAUBRÜCKE Association
  • September 11, 1:00 p.m.: Closing Reception and Auction Exhibition at Werkplatz
  • September 11, 4:00 p.m.: Major art auction featuring participants' caricatures and sculptures
  • September 11 evening: "Sculptures in the Light" with live music and wrap-up at the Werkplatz

The 2027 theme is "Transformation." The organizer is seeking abstract and equally multifaceted explorations from the realms of society and/or everyday life.

Open to sculptors and caricaturists from Germany and abroad. Young artists and students are encouraged to apply.

  • €600 flat fee for attendance from September 4–11, 2027
  • Free raw wood (usually peeled oak), selected in consultation with the artist
  • Material subsidy up to €300 in individual cases with artistic justification (organizer approval required)
  • Free lodging (single room with breakfast) through Sunday, September 12, 2027, at the "Am alten Bauernhafen" guesthouse in Lübbenau's Old Town
  • Free use of a bicycle for the entire duration
  • Free meals (breakfast and lunch)
  • Reception hosted by the mayor and welcome event on Friday, September 4, 2027, at 6:00 p.m.
  • Free evening events and recreational activities with colleagues, residents, and guests
  • Comprehensive catalog of the symposium (2 copies for participants) and event photos for personal use
  • Certificate of participation from the City of Lübbenau/Spreewald
  • Media relations, marketing campaigns, and publication of artworks and participant presentations
  • Exhibition and art auction of works created at the symposium and studio objects brought by artists (maximum 2 objects per participant); artist receives proceeds after 50% organizer commission deduction
  • Granting of usage rights, free of charge and for an indefinite period, for photography and film of works and their creation
  • Creation of a large-scale sculpture suitable for public spaces (outdoors), to be completed by the closing event (September 11, 2027) and prepared for auction
  • Must generally be present throughout the entire duration of the event
  • Active participation in public relations and promotional activities for the event in the run-up, including promotion through gallery contacts, personal contact list, and website
  • Unsold sculptures remain the property of the artist but must be made available to the city of Lübbenau/Spreewald on free loan for maximum two years for city-wide display; if sold during this period, the 50% organizer commission applies
  • Due to inner-city location, artists are asked to use electric chainsaws whenever possible; gas-powered chainsaws should be limited to rough trimming and shaping during the first few days
  • Tools and safety clothing are not provided; artists must ensure their own safety

Works created during the week will be exhibited and sold at auction on September 11. Artists may also bring up to 2 studio objects for sale. The organizer retains a 50% commission on all sales; the artist receives the remaining proceeds. Sale of additional art objects during the event period is permitted only with organizer approval.

The event will feature 22 selected artists, including approximately 10 sculptors and 12 caricaturists/cartoonists.
