Get matched →The Jahresgaben date back to the founding of the Kunstverein München in 1823, initially as an annual art print for members. It evolved into a group exhibition of works by mostly Munich-based artists, reflecting the density and diversity of the local contemporary art scene. It remains an important annual exhibition, bringing together artists, members, and audiences.
Members of Kunstverein München can purchase works at special prices, supporting both local artistic production and the Kunstverein. Half of the profits from sales go to the artists, and the other half to the Kunstverein and the Künstlersozialkasse, creating a solidarity-based structure.
Kunstverein München emphasizes affordability. Each artist may submit up to four works, with at least two not exceeding a selling price of 700 EUR each. Prices are inclusive of any applicable tax. Production costs are covered by the artists and cannot be passed on to the Kunstverein. Minor changes to these guidelines may be made by Kunstverein München.
An open call was introduced in 2023 to make participation transparent and accessible. Applications for the current year can be submitted until July 31. This requires sending a short letter of motivation and portfolio to [email protected]. Artists from the last three annual editions are automatically shortlisted and do not need to apply. All applications are reviewed and selected jointly by the Kunstverein München team.
