Open call fellows annual selection - Villa Medici

Overview

The French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici organizes an annual international competition to select fellows for a 12-month residency in creation, experimentation, and research. The residency begins in September and ends in August. Applications are accepted from all disciplines of literary and artistic creation, arts and crafts, as well as art history and theory, or the restoration of works of art or monuments.

Eligibility

• Established French-speaking artists, authors, and researchers, regardless of nationality
• Must be 18+ years old at application closing date
• Must speak French; knowledge of Italian language and culture advised
• Must not be former Fellows of the French Academy in Rome
• Selection process aimed at people already working professionally

Application requirements

• Completed application form on online platform
• Copy (front and back) of valid identity card or passport
• Detailed curriculum vitae in French outlining artistic background, degrees, awards, grants, publications, and previous residencies
• Detailed project proposal in French (PDF, max 10 pages) describing motivation, research themes, and intended work
• Portfolio: artistic documentation, copies of articles, excerpts from publications (hyperlinks to videos, audio, websites permitted); collaborative works must clearly identify individual contribution
• All materials compiled into single PDF document; total file size must not exceed 20 MB

Selection conditions

Candidates may submit only one application per competition. The jury comprises the Director of the French Academy in Rome (chair), the Director General of Artistic Creation at the French Ministry of Culture or representative, and six qualified personalities appointed by the Director.
