About
Overview
The Mondriaan Fund offers residency grants to help boost the artistic development and practice of visual artists, curators, and art observers. Participants spend a work period at a Dutch or international studio designated by the Fund, allowing for exploration of new (inter)national contacts and markets. The aim is the creation of work that makes a valuable contribution to contemporary visual art and/or cultural heritage in the Netherlands and/or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.
Who is eligible?
Visual artists, curators, art critics, and art observers who wish to deepen their professional practices and expand their networks. Artists must have been working professionally for at least 1 year; curators and art observers must have 1+ years of experience in visual arts or cultural heritage with publications, exhibitions, research projects, or initiated projects to demonstrate this.
Key conditions
- Must be artistically active and embedded in professional visual arts practice in Netherlands and/or Caribbean part of Kingdom
- Cannot be receiving other Mondriaan Fund support for the same costs
- Cannot be enrolled in Bachelor's, Master's, postdoctoral, or PhD programmes (exception: part-time programmes under 20 hours/week)
- Must contribute at least 10% of the grant amount (personal investment, third-party contributions, interest-free loan, or crowdfunding)
- Maximum 1 Residency grant per calendar year
- Can apply for up to 2 residencies per application round (separate forms for each)
- Artists previously rejected for Artist Project grant cannot apply within 12 months
Grant coverage
The grant is intended for travel, accommodation, and material costs. Living space, working space, and resident support are paid directly to the residency by the Mondriaan Fund. Grant amounts vary depending on the location and duration of the residency; grants for residents in the Caribbean may be higher to cover potentially higher travel costs.

- Work period is for 2027
- Processing requires 3 months after deadline
