About
Location
The Kornschütte is located on the ground floor of Lucerne Town Hall at Kornmarkt 3, CH-6004 Luzern, in the heart of the old town. It is just a few minutes' walk from Lucerne's main sights, including the Chapel Bridge with its water tower, the Hofkirche, the Museum of Transport, and the Lion Monument. The venue is located directly on the Reuss river, offering views of the lake and glacier garden.
History
The Kornschütte is a historic hall built in 1606 by architect Anton Isenmann (who also designed the town hall) in the Italian Renaissance style. It originally served as a trading centre for grain and foodstuffs and later as a department store through the 19th century. After World War II it was used as a storage room, exhibition space, and event venue. In 1983, it was extensively renovated and restored to its original condition.
Today
The Kornschütte is now used as an event venue for a variety of exhibitions and cultural events. It remains an important part of Lucerne's cultural heritage and a popular destination for visitors from around the world.
