Overview
This Visual Arts residency invites artists to explore projects that consider how places sing, how memory persists in vibration, and how listening to the land can re-orient ethical and political relations. Drawing on acoustic ecology concepts and taking the mountains of Banff as inspiration, participants explore how sound activates multiple temporalities shaped by land use, migration, ecological disruption, and colonial infrastructures.
Program Structure
- Development of theoretical concepts and artistic ideas through independent research alongside structured faculty-led activities and workshops
- One-to-one faculty mentorship through studio visits and faculty meetings
- Development of technical skills through experimentation and skill-based learning assisted by staff technicians
- Peer-to-peer informal learning related to studio and professional practice
- Development of a professional community towards sustaining an artistic career
Facilities & Support
- Private bedroom in shared housing on campus
- All meals provided
- Dedicated studios and workshops for ceramics, metal, photography, painting, printmaking, textiles, and woodworking
- Technicians available full-time

Eligibility

- Must apply and be accepted individually for collaborative residency
- Participants will reflect on ecological and ethical listening and sounding as it informs thinking, art-making and presentation
Fees & Scholarships
- Application fee: $65 for individuals or groups; $35 for applicants who identify as Indigenous (non-refundable)
- Total program fee: $10,033.70 CAD
- Participant cost after scholarship: $4,476.78 CAD
- Banff Centre Arts Scholarship: $5,556.87 CAD (covers tuition plus contribution towards accommodation and meals)
- Canadian Indigenous Arts Scholarship: covers full cost of tuition, accommodation, and meals
