Get matched →Kunstkerk Dordrecht seeks an artist, light artist, or creative AV maker to transform the Cinema De Witt building facade, Piet Oudolf garden, and surrounding space with moving light, projection, animation, sound, or other effects into a surprising, poetic, and engaging experience. The work should respond to the place and its history, offering a theatrical intervention that allows visitors to experience the Augustijnenkamp in a new way.
Develop a light experience lasting approximately 2 to 3 minutes in which the De Witt facade and/or garden tells a story about the location's history. Examples include projected animations on the facade, shadow play with silhouettes behind windows, light and smoke effects in the garden, or a combination of projection, sound, and light effects. Historical references include the former Latin School (now housing Cinema De Witt) where Johan and Cornelis de Witt studied, and Isaac Beeckman, who built an observatory there in the 17th century for astronomical and meteorological observations. Themes of knowledge, science, astronomy, light, and observation may inspire your artistic interpretation. Proposals should go beyond simple lighting to create a narrative, preferably with movement.
The project must align with the Dordtse Decemberdagen and the theme 'It Begins in Dordrecht.' The Dwaalspoor core values are: Nostalgic (recognition, memories, Dordrecht's past); Original (authentic stories, places, and the city's unique character); and Connecting (linking people, locations, stories, and different parts of Dordrecht).
Building plans for the De Witt facade and planting plans for the garden will be provided to the selected maker. The roof of De Witt is accessible, and installations can potentially be placed inside behind the facade windows.
