Overview
Purple Mountain Arts Residency is a non-profit (NPC) artists' retreat in Porterville, Western Cape, South Africa, founded by artists Carl Collison and Aldo Brincat. It opened in June 2024 and offers rolling residencies of two weeks to one month for creatives whose lives or practice are under threat, with a particular welcome to queer creatives from Africa and beyond. Residencies are self-curated.

What's Included
All residencies include a private room with its own entrance, patio and bathroom, three home-cooked meals a day, a studio, uncapped wi-fi, use of a bicycle and basic power tools, optional mentorship, online access to a registered clinical psychologist, airport transfer from Cape Town International, and a three-day satellite residency in Cape Town.
What the Residency Cannot Assist With
The residency notes that it cannot assist with flight costs, visa costs or asylum applications.
