Overview
Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Michèle Larose, an artist-in-residence programme supports visual artists who will use McGill collections to create works addressing contemporary and/or historical subjects in medicine and the health sciences. Possible projects include painting, photography, performance, sculpture, and digital, video or installation art.
The Award
The Michèle Larose – Osler Library Artist-in-Residence award is valued at $6,000, given annually to one or more deserving candidates with a degree in Studio Arts or a related field and/or a history of exhibiting artistic work in professional venues. The award covers travel, materials, and related expenses; taxes may be deducted. Payment is made in two parts: half at the beginning of the residency, the other half upon completion of residency requirements.
Residency Requirements
During the tenure of the residency, the artist will work on the project, give a public presentation about it, exhibit or perform the work, and submit a report suitable for publication in the Osler Library Newsletter. All work must be completed by April 30, 2027. The artist has full access to the Osler Library's historical and contemporary collections as well as other McGill resources, though no dedicated studio space is available.
