$2,500
Eastern German federal states, with priority for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Saxony-Anhalt; also small towns and rural areas in Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg and Saarland

Headwind 2026 is a fund supporting civil society initiatives that defend democracy and counter right-wing extremism. The fund aims to support work that creates solidarity, protects democratic spaces, and supports people affected by right-wing extremist, racist or anti-Semitic violence, particularly as state elections approach in Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Focus is on eastern German federal states, particularly Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Saxony-Anhalt. Projects from small towns and rural areas in Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg and Saarland are also invited to apply.

Up to 2,500 euros available per project.

Funding supports projects that take a clear stance against right-wing extremism; create or maintain meeting, protection or participation spaces; strengthen civil society's commitment to democracy; support people affected or threatened by right-wing extremist violence; deal with upheavals in democratic culture; analyze right-wing extremist ideologies and develop counter-strategies; or promote cooperation based on solidarity. Costs for security measures can be included.

Preference given to initiatives that form broad alliances and involve, for example, farms, sports clubs, voluntary fire departments, senior citizens' facilities or self-advocacy groups for people with disabilities.

Submit applications via the digital application form. Applications can be submitted all year round as long as funding is available. General eligibility criteria and application regulations apply.
